After
the Second World War , Alykes because
of its geographical position, was chosen by the Greek Goverment as the best spot of the Island for the production of Salt. So that part of Katastari Village was named after the "Salt Pans" (in Greek "Alykes"). Until late 1970's Alykes was produsing Salt and it was the summer resort of the locals and fishermans. In 1980 the Greek Goverment desided that the salt buisness was not profitable any more and they closed it down. |
