If you are looking for a quiet and pleasant retreat, far from the hustle and bustle of daily life, then the coastal area of Alykes, Alikanas & Amoudi will satisfy your wish!
Located on the NE coastline of the island of Zakynthos, 15 km from the capital by the same name, the Alykes and Alikanas are two enticing beaches, adjacent to each other, occupying an area of approximately 3 km in length. The golden sands slide very gently into the crystal clear waters, which makes the beaches ideal for families with children. The waters are always clean owing to northern winds and sea currents. These beaches are far from any cumbersome industrial development, however they feature tourist facilities which have adjusted well to the natural environment without compromising the demands for comfort.
Alykes is a beautiful, lush area with a breathtaking mountain view. It is dotted with Hotels, Rooms-to-Let, Bungalows, Restaurants, Tavernas, Bars, Super Markets, Souvenir shops, etc. Most of the shops are strewn along the main road of the village of Alykes. On the beach you will also find Tavernas and Snack Bars for lunch or a refreshing drink after your swim. For those inclined towards water sports and adventure, the options are countless; name it and you will find it !: Jet Skiing, Paragliding, Banana Riding, Water Skiing, etc.
An attraction at Alykes is the Pentacamaro bridge overlooking the Skourtis river. The bridge is built entirely of stone and its name denotes the fact that the bridge incorporates five arches («kamares»). We do not know the exact date of its construction, but we know that it was erected during the period of English rule of the island. The bridge is truly worth a visit! Two more attractions are the monastery of St John the Baptist, and the salt pan («Alykes») which gave its name to the surrounding area.
Alikanas (or Alykanas) lies next to Alykes in an area dotted with olive trees. The beach here, too, is wonderful featuring an inlet with fishing boats. Tourist accommodation includes: Hotels, Bungalows, Rooms-to-Let, Bars, Restaurants, etc. Life is quiet during the low summer season but thrives during the high season. Night life is not particularly intense. However, there are a few bars where you can enjoy your cocktail and good music – this is no place for RAVERS, though it is ideal for those in search of relaxation and tranquillity.
The sandy beaches are a continuation of the coast line stretching from Alykes, through Alykanas to Amoudi.
Amoudi is a quiet traditional resort dotted with tavernas, bars, apartments and villas that is rarely crowded and remains unspoilt.
It is the ideal location for those people who are looking for relaxing, quiet surroundings that are not too far away from the main resort of Alykanas which has plenty of entertainment.
The area has a warm and friendly village atmosphere with sandy beaches and crystal clear waters of the Ionian Sea.
